Connecting People, Connecting Business
Release Date: 27th June 2010
As part of the Park’s sustainable travel policy, HF Developments (HFD) and SPT this week announced changes to the SPT 299 service which serves Strathclyde Business Park.
Strathclyde Business Park is home to a comprehensive range of business from small start ups, established local businesses to blue chips including Virgin Media, ScottishPower, Scottish Enterprise, Pitney Bowes, Coatbridge College, FMC Technologies and many more. HF Developments have continually worked alongside Park occupiers and SPT for a number of years to provide a range of appropriate options for Strathclyde Business Park’s 6,000 staff to travel to work.
Staff can currently choose from a variety of bus services, including the dedicated Park shuttle services which connect the Park to Glasgow, Hamilton, Airdrie, Coatbridge, Bellshill and Motherwell. For the last two years, HF Developments have also been working in conjunction with SPT to provide additional scheduled services via the 299 service, which connects the Park to Bellshill train station. Staff also have access to the Park’s car sharing scheme, with a Park wide survey of the 6,000 staffs travel habits revealing that 10% of respondents were regularly car sharing.
All companies on the Park have access to the Park’s travel co-ordinator, with services being continually adapted to suit staff demand. Following a recent review of the 299 service and usage patterns over the last two years, SPT will begin the trial of a revised timetable in July.
The timetable, part subsided by HF Developments, reflects the staff travel patterns from the Park and is designed to offer efficient connectivity with Bellshill train station, allowing a journey time into Glasgow City Centre of as little as 32 minutes at peak times.
HFD’s Development Director Stephen Lewis commented on the process. “We are committed to developing sustainable business communities, and providing a range of travel options to suit working patterns and all budgets. We work very closely with our occupiers to deliver solutions which work for them. The results of our travel survey indicate a increase in both desire and demand for car sharing, so over the next few months we’ll be rolling out a further, enhanced campaign across the Park to increase awareness and build on the current excellent levels of participation in the scheme.”
